We drove back toward town. My sister-in-law asked where someone else had grown up and her husband said over by the city pool. He drove toward that area to see if any homes looked familiar. As he turned the truck to take us home, we all noticed a woman holding something. She appeared frantic. My husband thought she was holding a dog. My brother-in-law and I thought it was a child. We drove past. The woman looked crazy with panic, flailing her arms while holding that baby. I told my brother-in-law to drive around the block. My husband didn't think we should because we didn't know what we might be getting into. The woman looked distraught and by the time we got around the block there were a couple other people trying to talk to her. I said "Stop the truck. I have to get out. Something is wrong with that baby."
I ran toward the people. A man said are you a nurse? I replied, Yes. The woman screamed "Help him. He's my whole world." I took the baby in my arms. He was about 6 months old. He was having seizures. His beautiful blue eyes were rolled up and his little arms and legs were jerking continuously. I asked my family to call 911. I instructed the woman (many times) to calm down. I walked into the shade of a tree while holding the baby to provide calm and allow for secretions to drain from his mouth. I was maintaining his airway, watching closely, ready to begin CPR if needed.
Thank God that we live in a wonderful, small community where people are not afraid to help each other. Our squad arrived quickly. I walked the baby to the squad and gave him to one of the paramedics who quickly began to provide the infant with the necessary care. They started a line and gave him oxygen. They gave me an update before they drove away and the seizures had stopped. Praise Jesus.
Thanks be to our wonderful Heavenly Father who sent us down that side road on Saturday. God knew where we needed to be on that Saturday and he knew when we needed to be there to be able to help. I should not be amazed because I know God's timing is always perfect. Just listen for his voice and he will direct you to fulfill the life he has planned for you. I knew I had to stop and help. It was God nudging me to help. My calling is to be helpful and care for others. May you seek God and hear his voice this day. Please share your God sightings with me and feel free to comment. God bless you.
